Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
