Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
