19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a challenging year, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court after spring of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's retrieving approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional championship, gained dominance to create a third set.

He defended 4 initial break points in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
